‘Rites of Passage’ was originally composed in July 2017 and released the following month. Despite that it has always been one of my personal favourite tracks from the original “chapters”, every time I listened to it, I wished I had done or two things differently; not because anything was “wrong”, but simply because I wanted the song to have a specific dynamic and feel.

Three years later, I decided to rework the track. The song has been remixed and remastered, the tempo has been increased, and a new vocal and drum have been added. This newly reworked version captures what I hoped to achieve when I originally composed the track.

'Rites of Passage' represents the acknowledgment of a new life. There is an understanding that when something new begins, something else has to end. Throughout time, tribes marked this through rites of passage. This chapter is about the recognition that before one can transform, one must undergo a long and slow transition before finally arriving at "the point".

I am a copywriter by day and humbled to work with words for a living. However, whether it’s a stark or dramatic landscape, the serenity and solitude of the forest, a connection with another human being, or the grief of losing one, sometimes it’s difficult to find the words.

IN THE ABSENCE OF WORDS is a project I originally started as an outlet to express experiences and moods in other ways than words. The original goal was to release “chapters” every month for one year. With each chapter, the aim was to create a "story" based on a mood or feeling. I achieved the goal of releasing new a chapter every month for one in 2018, and I continue to release music intermittently.
